Joanne Westlake Photography is all about capturing real moments, genuine connections and the little details that make life special. Based on the Devon and Cornwall border, I specialise in relaxed, natural photography that tells a story — whether that’s a family session on the beach, a couple celebrating an engagement, or a small business wanting authentic images that reflect who they are. Living on the edge of both counties means I’m perfectly placed to travel throughout the Duchy and across Devon, photographing people in places that are meaningful to them.
I’ve always believed the best photographs happen when people feel comfortable and can simply be themselves. My approach is calm, friendly and unobtrusive, allowing moments to unfold naturally rather than forcing poses. It’s those spontaneous smiles, shared glances and bursts of laughter that often become the most treasured images.
Cornwall and Devon provide the most beautiful backdrop for photography, and I feel incredibly lucky to work in such inspiring surroundings. From golden beaches to rugged cliffs and quiet countryside, the landscape adds something truly special to every session.
Many of the people I photograph come back to me time and time again — from capturing a couple’s engagement to photographing their wedding and later welcoming their growing family. Being trusted to document those milestones is something I never take for granted.
For me, photography isn’t just about taking pictures. It’s about preserving memories — the moments that pass quickly but mean everything when you look back on them years later.
What I love most about photography is the people I meet along the way. Every session is different, every story is unique, and it’s a privilege to capture those moments for others to look back on and treasure for years to come.
